Hitting the road this Memorial Day holiday? You won't be alone.
AAA predicts 37.2 million people will travel more than 50 miles from home this weekend, the largest number of travelers for the holiday in a decade.
The reason? Gas prices on average $1 a gallon lower than this time last year.
"AAA is expecting more Memorial Day travelers this year than any time in the past 10 years as confident consumers come out of hibernation ready to explore national parks, beach destinations and America's great cities," AAA President Marshall Doney said. http://prn.to/1L7pPUt
Many will be taking the bus. The American Bus Association pointed to a DePaul University study concluding that 1.8 million people will ride motorcoaches during the holiday, an increase of 5 percent since last year.
"The DePaul report shows that people love riding motorcoaches. Our industry will safely take millions of Americans to and from their holiday destinations this Memorial Day," ABA CEO Peter Pantuso said. http://bit.ly/1PUGs7e
Memorial Day also kicks off the summer travel season. Airlines for America forecasts that 223 million people will take to the skies between June 1 and Aug. 31, the highest number of travelers in at least a decade. That means airlines will carry an average of 2.4 million passengers a day. http://bit.ly/1R1e31I
